पाठ्यचर्या - Curriculum

व्यापक अर्थ में पाठ्यक्रम का तात्पर्य उन सभी अनुभवों से है, जिन्हें बालक अपनी रुचियों तथा आवश्यकताओं के अनुसार विभिन्न क्रियाओं द्वारा कक्षा के अंदर अथवा कक्षा के बाहर समय प्राप्त करता है। माध्यमिक शिक्षा आयोग (1952-53) ने पाठ्यक्रम के व्यापक अर्थ को स्पष्ट करते हुए लिखा है “पाठ्यक्रम का अर्थ केवल उन सैद्धांतिक विषयों से नहीं है, जो स्कूल में परंपरागत रूप से पढ़ाए जाते हैं, अपितु इसमें अनुभवों की वह संपूर्णता भी सम्मिलित होती है, जिनको बालक स्कूल, कक्षा, पुस्तकालय, प्रयोगशाल, वर्कशाप तथा खेल के मैदान एवं शिक्षकों और छात्रों के अगिनता अनौपचारिक संपर्कों से प्राप्त करता है। इस प्रकार स्कूल का संपूर्ण जीवन पाठ्यक्रम बन जाता है, जो छात्रों के सभी पक्षों को प्रभावित कर सकता है तथा उनके विचार में सहायता दे सकता है।"

"Curriculum does not mean only the academic subjects traditionally taught in the school. But it includes the totality of experiences that pupil receives through the manifold activities that go in the class room, library, laboratory, workshop, playgrounds and in the numerous informal contacts between teacher and pupils. In this sense the whole life of the school becomes the curriculum which can touch the life of the students at all points and help in the evolution of balanced personality."
